First lead mine discovered in Deylaman

 

TEHRAN –- The first lead mine in Gilan was discovered in Deylaman after four years of geophysical operations, excavations, tunneling, chipping and borehole making. It reserves some 55,500 tons of lead. The ministry of industries and mines has underwritten the project with paying 65% of the total costs while the rest was provided by the private sector. The project of exploiting the new mine that starts next year will create 30 jobs. Some 5500 tons of lead powder is planned to be exported to Zanjan for being processed. Gilan is the country’s 16th biggest producer of minerals.

 

Iran’s total miner, industrial exports to hit $17b

 

TEHRAN –- The total volume of Iran’s mineral and industrial exports during the Third Development Plan (2000-05) is expected to touch $17b.

 

This year, the volume of mineral and industrial exports increased by 12.5% and 24.4% in terms of weight and value, respectively, compared to the same period last year. Because of being completely stuck with problems, Iranian producers can only think of production process and have not enough time and energy to find good target markets for their products.

 

Karaj to host 1st National Fodder Crops Seminar this summer

 

TEHRAN –- The First National Fodder Crops Seminar is to be held next summer in the agriculture and natural resources complex in Karaj, a city located west of Tehran.

 

The event is aimed at introducing the country’s technological capabilities in implementation of R&D research plans in production and processing domestic fodder crops. Meanwhile, large number experts in various fields including farming, transgenic planting, cattle husbandry, forestry and ranch preservation, agriculture promotion as well as farmers and agro producers will attend the seminar to discuss ways of improving both the quality and output of Iran’s forage farming industry.

 

Egg, chicken exporters to receive subsidies

 

TEHRAN –- The commerce ministry is to pay subsidies to those exporters of eggs and frozen chicken who have exported their cargos from March 21, 2004 to October 24, 2004.

 

This group of exporters should send their documents and export returns to Mihan Chicken Farmers Union until March 17. However, those who have been awarded the export prizes will not be included in the list.

 

Iran’s forest land grow by 1.5m hectares

 

TEHRAN –- The national Forest and Range Organization announced Tuesday that forests have relatively crept around the country according to the latest statistics.

 

Iran’s forest lands have developed from 12.4 million to 13.9 million hectares. According to FAO, a forest is a land area of more than 0.5 ha, with a tree canopy cover of more than 10%, which is not primarily under agricultural or other specific non-forest land use. In the case of young forests or regions where tree growth is climatically suppressed, the trees should be capable of reaching a height of 5m in situ, and of meeting the canopy cover requirement.

 

1st intl. food festival opens in Kish

 

TEHRAN –- The first international festival of food, beverages and candies (FOBEX 2005) kicked off in Kish on Tuesday.

 

Some 50 companies from Austria, Spain, Australia, Japan and Iran have participated in the event in order to market and sell their various products including raw food materials, candies, chocolates, biscuits and packaging for saffron and other spices. The southern beautiful island, which hosts some one million tourists each year, is considered by foreign companies as the best place in the region for marketing their products.             

 

Ilam brings about 1500 tons of greenhouse produces annually

 

TEHRAN –- Some 1500 tons of greenhouse fruits and vegetables are produced annually in the western province of Ilam, said head of the provincial organization of agricultural jihad.

 

“These are mainly cucumbers, tomatoes and vegetables,” Habibollah Raad uttered. Most of the volume, which is produced in 90 greenhouses, is offered to the markets of Ilam. Greenhouses cover a total of 180,000 sq.m of land in Ilam Province.

 

Titanium ore processed in Amir Kabir University

 

TEHRAN –- Researchers in the Amir Kabir University of Technology have found a way to process a certain type of titanium ore that is extracted from Ghareh Aghaj mine in Urmia.

 

Dr. Mehdi Irannejad, who was a member of the research team, stated that mineralogical studies prove the presence of ilmenite, magnetite and silicate minerals such as pyroxene, olivine and several secondary minerals in this type of titanium ore. He also pointed out that the mine reserves some 208 million tons of ores.
